I like your ideas.
I would add to buy anything that you use alot of bulk. For example I buy Tinkyada pasta 10 pounds at a time from Azure Standard for $2.30 a pound instead of the $3.99 they want at my grocery store. I also buy quinoa, teff and sorghum there 25 pounds at a time.
Thanks for you tip on Agave Nectar from Amazon. I had never thought to check there and it is substantially less expensive there than anywhere else.

All your ideas are great. When I lived in the midwest I did lots of those things. Now that I'm in NYC doing all my shopping at one time just isn't feasable (having only two hands and the subway) so I hit one store at a time with a list of what I need from each. I do the majority of my meal prep, breakfast and bag lunches, on the weekend. I keep staples around and when my boy friend and I have a chance to eat dinner together I'll stop and pick up something additional on the way home. Your sight and ideas are great!

I just started a feature over at my blog called "Easy and Frugal Gluten-Free Cooking."

http://www.bookofyum.com/blog/easy-and-frugal-gluten-free-cooking-1-potato-latkes-and-spaghetti-squash-lasagna-recipes-1864.html

International markets are also a great, inexpensive place to pick up fresh produce and even proteins.

We can't stand the taste of the tap water here, but we got a tap filter and it definitely ends up being cheaper than bottled water- as well as being friendlier for the environment. :)

Great post!

There is a great money-saving forum called Savvy Dollar that has really helped me a lot. Lots of people posting weekly deals...basically, lots of people doing the work for you. :)

This is a great post. I am not the smartest grocery shopper. I definitely need to start planning this way because our food bill is killing us, especially being gluten-free.

I need to get organized! Thanks for the info!

I like you idea of shopping for produce, then planning your meal, then doing the remainder of your shopping. Since produce is the majority of what we eat, that should really allow me to plan around the vegetables and fruit that are in season and, thus, at the lowest prices.

I too decided that the Grocery Game was not worth the trouble. However I have just started doing the coupon shopping at CVS so that I can reduce the amount of my grocery budget going to toiletries.

Thanks for the link love and have a great weekend =)
